Local Komen 3-Day Participants Inducted into Lifetime Commitment Circle.

Avondale Resident and Komen Philadelphia Board Member, Stephanie Capaccio Celebrated as a Top Fundraiser

Susan G. Komen®is preparing to induct the top fundraisers for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® into its Lifetime Commitment Circle. The inductee group—including two participants from the Komen Philadelphia service area—consists of 32 individuals and 19 teams. All told, through their combined years participating in the 3-Day, these honorees have raised more than $34,000,000 to support Komen’s lifesaving work to end breast cancer on local, national and global levels.

While participants in the Komen 3-Day—a 60-mile walk focused on celebrating survivors and honoring  loved ones lost to breast cancer—are required to raise a minimum of $2,300, year after year, the Lifetime Commitment Circle honorees have worked hard to significantly exceed the requirement. By rallying friends to donate, hosting fundraising events and more, these participants not only help raise vital dollars to help end breast cancer, but they embrace members of the professional and personal communities in the Komen mission.

“What Stephanie and other fundraisers have done goes far beyond simply raising money,” said Elaine I. Grobman, CEO, Komen Philadelphia, referring to one of the Philadelphia-area Lifetime Commitment Circle honorees. “They are carrying out our mission every day to more and more people—and bringing the HOPE of our mission to their communities. Stephanie has been involved with us for many years so she realizes that the isn’t so much asking for donations as she is giving her  friends, family and colleagues the opportunity to make a real impact on a cause that matters to all of us.”

Avondale, Pennsylvania resident, Stephanie Capaccio has participated in nine 3-Day events, raising a total of $121,838. As Director of Associate Relations for Wawa, a major sponsor of Komen Philadelphia for more than 20 years, Capaccio is no stranger to the Komen Philadelphia mission. Throughout her many years of involvement—which includes her current seat on the Komen Philadelphia Board of Directors—Stephanie has proven to be a strong leader, dedicated volunteer and year-round fundraiser. The other honoree from the Philadelphia area wishes to remain anonymous. She has participate in the 3-Day for twelve years, raising a total of $101,255.

“Stephanie is a remarkable activist, and we are so very proud to have her represent the Komen Philadelphia family on this national Komen platform,” said Grobman. “We are proud, and extremely grateful, for the fundraising achievements that merit her being recognized. Through research support and funding for critical community outreach programs, every dollar Stephanie has raised—and continues to raise—is clearing a path for our daughters, granddaughters and all the generations that follow to live in a world in which breast cancer will never again be a threat to any life.”

Each inductee to the 3-Day Lifetime Commitment Circle has raised at least $100,000 individually for the 3-Day over their lifetime, or at least $1,000,000 as a team for the 3-Day over their lifetime. They will be honored June 21-22 at Susan G. Komen Headquarters in Dallas, TX during an appreciation and mission-focused event.

Capaccio, along with other top fundraisers, will have her names inscribed on a permanent appreciation mural at Komen’s headquarters. Three fundraising levels will be recognized in the Lifetime Commitment Circle:

  • Courage: $100k for an individual and $1M for a team
  • Impact $250k for an individual and $2M for a team
  • Promise $500k+ for an individual and $3M+ for a team

Honorees will attend a private, mission-focused event where they will meet with Komen executive leadership. The program includes a breakfast, panel discussion with the Scientific Advisory Board and a round-robin session with the Mission team where participants will learn more about the programs they are helping to fund. The group also will be provided with the tools and support needed to help them continue their advocacy through the Susan G. Komen 3-Day.

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Philadelphia will take place from September 28-30, 2018
