Opening Ceremonies 2010

It Was Our Most "Explosive" Opening Ceremonies Ever.

We set the stage for the most spectacular Opening Ceremonies ever in the 20-year history of the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure®... and thousands arrived early to take it all in!

Survivor Parade Prelude in Pink

Even if you were a mile away from the Race site, you may have been  able to see and hear some of the excitement... thanks to a special feature  that literally and figuratively "rocked" everyone's 2010 Race day experience.  We thank UnitedHealthcare of Pennsylvania for their generosity that allowed us to kick off our 2010 Survivor Parade of Pink with gorgeous pink fireworks!

"Our Cherished Chairs," a 20-Year Living Timeline

This year, defining - and distinguishing - the aisle down which our 6,000+ survivors paraded in victory were twenty Philadelphia Race for the Cure Co-chairpersons, each proudly displaying a standard bearing one year of our two-decade history. A way to honor the Co-Chairs who were - and are - so critical to our history and progress, this timeline reinforced the longevity of our Race, made possible by every contributor to our Race over the years. With or without a camera, this endearing, pride-filled vision will surely live forever in your mental "photo album."

Musical Arts: Something Traditional, Something New, All Cherished.

In celebration of our 20th anniversary, three area organizations prepared for months, arose well before the crack of dawn and united at the Art Museum on May 9 to embrace our opening ceremonies in inspirational music and dance.  The ceremonies were kicked off with the Jane Lopoten School of Dance, a long-standing tradition of grace and celebration, followed by another traditional performance of honor and spirit by the Voices of Gwynedd Choir. And to bring it all to a majestic climax before the survivors parade, we were happy to welcome members of the Temple University Diamond Marching Band, performing for the first time at our Race.
